Nearly 5% (16 million) livestock population has decreased over the last decade in Bangladesh. This down trend is seen in both ruminant and poultry. Among all livestock, cows (5.4 million) and duck (25 million) showed increased positive trend. These are figures released as part of agriculture census 2019 and livestock economy, Bangladesh Bureau of statistics.

In 2019, as in the previous year, the buffalo population is seeing dramatically decline. The total number of buffaloes in the country stands at 3.78 lakh heads, i.e. 9.71 lakh (72%) fewer than in 2010. Slightly higher than 20 lakh sheep has reduced in 2019 which was 29.77 lakh in 2010. Around 17% goat population decreased from 232.77 lakh goat in 2019.
Duck and chicken population is increasing
Compared to 2015, both chicken and duck are seeing to increase. The increasing trend is continued for duck. In 2019, duck increases 675.29 lakh from 505.22 lakh in 2015 and 426.77 lakh in 2010. However, chicken population is seeing up-down over the last decade. In 2015, the total population has increased at 15% compared to population in 2010 and again 28% decreased compared to chicken population in 2015.
