Coronavirus: 4,703 Policemen Infected

As of Saturday morning, 4,703 members of the Bangladesh Police have been diagnosed with coronavirus, according to sources at the police headquarters.

Sources said 159 members of the police are newly infected. infected policemen include high-ranking officers.

Besides, 15 policemen died of COVID-19 till Saturday morning, they told UNB.

The policemen were infected while performing their duties.

“Among the total infected policemen, 1,606  have made full recovery till Saturday morning,” said a senior police officer of Police Headquarters.

Earlier this Friday, Sohel Rana, Assistant Inspector General (AIG) (media) of the Police Headquarters, said one in three compromised police officers has fully recovered, which is 34.39 per cent of the overall incidents.

The rate of recovery of contaminated cops is satisfactory with the ongoing efforts and directives from Inspector General of Police (IGP) Dr Benazir Ahmed, he said.

Besides general people, frontline fighters against coronavirus, doctors, nurses, and members of other law enforcement agencies are also getting infected.

Members of the Bangladesh Police, Armed Forces, and Rab, together with other organizations, have worked together to maintain social differences throughout the region.

On Saturday, Bangladesh reported the largest number of deaths owing to COVID-19, with 28 more patients dying over the last 24 hours, taking the death to 610.

The country also saw a further rise in coronavirus cases with the detection of 1,764 new cases during the same period, taking the total number of cases to 44,608.
