No Eid Congregation at Sholakia Maidan

The authorities concerned have suspended the 193rd Eid-ul-Azha Jamaat (congregation) in the traditional Sholakia Eidgah Maidan in Kishoreganj this year as a consequence of the coronavirus pandemic.

"We have taken this decision considering the health of the devotees due to the Covid-19 pandemic, as tens of thousands of devotees assemble the historic maidan to enter the Eid congregation every year," said Kishoreganj Deputy Commissioner and Sholakia Eidgah Committee Member Md Sarwar Morshed Chowdhury told BSS.

Jamaat of Eid-ul-Azha, he added, should be conducted in local mosques instead of Eid-gahs or open areas, retaining social distinctions and safety guidance.

If required, several Eid Jamaats will be conducted in a single mosque, he added.

The authorities have postponed the Eid-ul-Fitr congregation in the traditional Sholakia Eidgah Maidan this year as a consequence of the coronavirus outbreak.
