Afghan President Has Signed a Decree for the Release of Taliban Prisoners

Afghan President Ashraf Ghani has signed a decree releasing the latest Taliban prisoners. These members of the Taliban were extremely extremist and devoted to the instructions of the top leadership to carry out bombings and assassinations.

Although the Afghan president has signed off on the release of the Taliban prisoners, Kabul is concerned. At the end of yesterday (Monday), President Ashraf Ghani ordered the final release of 400 prisoners. A source in the president's office confirmed the signing of the degree.

Javid Faisal, a spokesman for Afghanistan's National Security Council, said the Afghan government would begin work on releasing the Taliban prisoners in the next two days. The move by President Ashraf Ghani's government is expected to usher in a long-awaited peace process.

An Afghan government source said a delegation would visit the Qatari capital, Doha, on Wednesday, and peace talks would begin on Sunday.
