Uber, bKash Tie Up for Contactless Payment

Ride sharing service, Uber and mobile financial services, bKash have been partnered up to enable riders to pay fares in a contactless, easy and safe manner in this Covid-19 situation.

The alliance would require millions of Bangladeshi riders to hire Uber rides seamlessly, with the convenience of cashless payment, according to a press release on Monday (August 10), reports BSS.

“During an ongoing global pandemic and especially as cities start moving again, we understand the importance of safer, cashless transactions to help maintain physical distancing,” said Nandini Maheshwari, Director, Business Development, Uber, APAC.

She said, “With this partnership, we hope to promote more digital transactions, reduce cash dependency on the platform, and improve the country’s digital financial infrastructure.”

Serving about 45 million local users, bKash is used every day to move currency, pay for utilities and other services. With the new alliance, BKash users would have immediate access to Uber and safe and efficient touch-button drives.

BKash described the relationship as a significant move forward in the cycle of through digitized payments on its website.

bKash Chief Commercial Officer Mizanur Rashid said “Facilitated through our partnership with Alipay, the automatic payment options provided to Uber rides by bKash will bring more relief to customers during this pandemic.”

The experience of this new digital payment facility will further drive the adoption of uninterrupted ride-sharing services, he added.

As the first ride-sharing service to launch operations in Bangladesh in 2016, this relationship illustrates Uber's unwavering dedication to serving the country's passengers, drivers and communities. Bangladesh remains a significant sector for Uber with operations throughout Dhaka, Chattogram, Sylhet and Cox's Bazar.
