CARE Bangladesh, a non-governmental organisation (NGO), held a daylong job fair for unemployed youths at Technical Training Centre (TTC) of Kurigram's Sadar Upazila on Wednesday.

Deputy Commissioner Sultana Pervin inaugurated the fair where job-seekers and different companies, including PRAN RFL, Ayesha Abed Foundation, Bdjobs, Dutch-Bangla Bank Limited (DBBL), took part

CARE Bangladesh organised the programme in collaboration with USAID and Strengthening Household Ability to Respond to Development Opportunities (SHOUHARDO) III.

A discussion programme on ''Linking potential employers with skilled youths'' was also arranged at the fair, said a press release.

Kurigram DC Sultana Pervin said, ''More than 65 percent of the population is of working age, between 15 and 64, which offers an opportunity of accelerated economic growth, which is called the demographic dividend. The government is trying to secure employment for the huge number of young people, but coordinated support from non-government and companies are required as well.''

Over 400 youths from different corners of Kurigram joined the fair.

Under SHOUHARDO III, 6,243 youths (3,006 males and 3,237 females) received training in the last financial year while over 2,700 youths among them are now engaged in self or wage employment.
