For the first time since US officials started implementing widespread lockdowns to slow coronavirus spread, all 50 states now partially reopened.

Connecticut became the final state to start lifting restrictions on Wednesday, now allowing retail shops and restaurants to open their doors again.

Some states, including Georgia and Texas, have launched aggressive re-opening plans. Others have taken a more measured approach; for example, New York, California and Pennsylvania are only re-opening parts of their state reporting declines in new cases.

Many cities also remain under stay-at-home orders. In Baltimore, meetings of more than 10 people are still prohibited and retail outlets are also locked.

Experts warn that the danger is not over: health officials say that Americans remain at risk of catching a highly communicable and sometimes deadly virus.

"The only thing that was keeping this very contagious virus in check was each of us keeping that physical distance," Dr. Leana Wen, the former Baltimore City Health Commissioner, told CNN Tuesday night.

Experts have warned that early lifting of restrictions may mean that thousands more Americans will die and could cause a second spike in some parts of the country.

It is now the responsibility of individuals to abide by the guidelines, practice safe social distances, and adapt to new habits in order to keep themselves and those around them safe.
