Corona Patients Being 'Deprived of Treatment': BNP

BNP alleged on Wednesday that most hospitals in the country do not have the necessary preventive measures and manpower to cope with coronavirus patients.

"Those who are diagnosed with coronavirus do not provide adequate health care from hospitals due to lack of appropriate protective measures and manpower," said BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Rahul Kabir Rizvi.

Speaking at the human-chain program, he also said, "Treatment is being hindered as 71 per cent of hospitals do not have the necessary protective measures to deal with corona... about 86 per cent of nurses are not trained to treat such patients. As a result, virus-infected patients are not receiving the proper treatment in hospitals.

The BNP leader said that the national budget placed last week still does not include a plan for solving such health problems.

"The government's callousness has been revealed in the bill. Although the health sector is now the most important sector, a normal allocation has been made instead of a special focus on it, "Rizvi said.

Future of Bangladesh, a pro-BNP platform, arranged the programme in front of the Jatiya Press Club protesting the national budget for the next fiscal year.

Rizvi said though the country has been in a serious pandemic, the budget was not framed giving the main focus on saving people and their lives.

“There’re no ventilators, oxygen and masks at the hospitals, and there’s no outline in the budget either to overcome this situation. “In fact, this budget was formulated to fool people,” he observed.

The BNP leader said the coronavirus situation has taken a serious turn in the country only because of the government’s incompetence and failures.
