Covid-19: Global Confirmed Cases near 10mn

Global cases of Covid-19 exceeded 9,953,038 on Sunday morning, according to the Center for System Science and Engineering at Johns Hopkins University.

In fact, the deadly disease has taken 498,178 lives so far, according to JHU data.

Brazil ranked second in the US with 1,313,667 incidents and 57,070 deaths as of Sunday morning.

While India's South Asian country rated fourth after Russia's 508,953 reported Covid-19 incidents. So far, the nation has recorded 15,685 deaths.

Russia counted the third-largest Covid-19 incidents, 1,313,667, behind the US and Brazil.

Among the countries, the US has been the worst-hit with the highest recorded deaths of 125,539 patients and about 2,508,705 confirmed cases.

In the US, New York State alone counted 31,368 deaths till the date.

The United Kingdom has the third largest death rate at 43,598, led by Italy at 34,716, France at 29,781 and Spain at 28,341, according to Johns Hopkins University.

Coronavirus cases were first recorded in China in December of last year.

The World Health Organisation (WHO) announced the outbreak of coronavirus a pandemic on 11 March.

Situation in Bangladesh

Bangladesh reported its first cases on 8 March and its first death on 18 March, but there has been a sharp increase in both new cases and deaths in recent weeks.

To date, 133,978 coronavirus cases have been reported by the country's health authorities after testing 7,12,098 samples.

Bangladesh has so far recorded 1,695 deaths from the disease.

The country reported 3,504 new Covid-19 cases and 34 deaths in the 24 hours until Saturday morning.
