After Switzerland, Bangladesh is now beginning to sell mangoes to Milan, Italy, while other shipments are heading to the United Kingdom and Austria this week.

M Shahriar Alam, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, confirmed this in a Facebook post on Monday.

Earlier on July 14, Bangladeshi mangoes arrived in Switzerland — the export of the first package of mangoes to the country.

Popular variety "Amropali" are now being sold at the supermarkets in Switzerland, according to a media report Tuesday.

It has been possible thanks to an initiative taken by Bangladesh Permanent Mission in Geneva.

The demand for mangoes in Switzerland has risen in the last few years, according to a report undertaken by the Bangladesh Mission, said the post.

A Bangladeshi who has been staying in Geneva for 20 years said he was really excited to see the Bangladeshi mango logo in a store.

“I actually forgot the taste of Bangladeshi mangoes. Thanks to BD Mission for letting the opportunity to have the old taste again,” he said.

Switzerland, a well-known diplomatic center with a population of 3.5 million, may be a lucrative destination for Bangladeshi mangoes if trade ties are established to ensure the export standard of agro-products, including mangoes.
