Naogaon-6 MP Israfil Alam Passes Away

Awami League lawmaker from Naogaon-6 constituency Md Israfil Alam has died at a private hospital in the capital on Monday morning.

He breathed his last at Square Hospital at around 7:00am while undergoing treatment, reports UNB.

Raninagar Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Md Al Mamun confirmed the news.

Israfil Alam, also the joint secretary of the Awami League Naogaon District Committee, was given life support on July 24 after his breathing complications deteriorated, said his wife, Sultana Parveen.

According to Pervin, Israfil was diagnosed with Coronavirus and admitted to hospital on July 6.

Israfil returned home on July 14 as his follow-up test report came out negative for Coronavirus, she said.

Later on July 17, he was admitted to the hospital again as his condition deteriorated, she added.

Israfil Alam became an MP for the first time in 2008 when he was Secretary General of the Sramik League of the Dhaka City Unit. He was elected as a member of Parliament three times, both in the tenth and eleventh national elections.

In addition, Israfil was the joint secretary of the Naogaon District Awami League, President of the Rural Development and Cooperatives Federation, and a member of the Parliamentary Standing Committee of the Ministry of Labour and Employment.

In the meantime, Prime Minister Sheik Hasina shared deep grief and sorrow at the demise of Israfil Alam MP.

In a message of condolence, she said that Israfil served for the welfare of the government and the people all his life.

She prayed for the eternal peace of the departed soul and expressed sympathy for his bereaved family members.
