Awami League General Secretary and Minister for Road Transport and Bridges Obaidul Quader has warned that no one will be spared if they extort money or commit irregularities in the name of Bangabandhu in August.

He made the remarks at a last-minute exchange meeting with BRTC and BRTA officials on Friday (July 31st). The bridge minister joined the exchange of views via video conference from his official residence in the Parliament building area.

The minister also said the month of mourning is starting in August. In this month of mourning, extortion cannot be done by breaking Bangabandhu's name. No one will be exempted from extortion or irregularities.

"I request the homebound passengers to wear 100% masks and observe the highest level of hygiene to prevent coronavirus infection," he added.

He however lamented that despite the government taking one step after another to benefit BRTC, the company was still reeling from the loss. The minister also directed to operate the route in coordination with transport owners and workers to increase the quality of service of BRTC and stop irregularities.

Later Obaidul Quader said this year's Eid is being flooded on one side and Corona on the other. The floods started in the north but are now spreading to the central region. The floods are causing a lot of damage to the roads. As soon as the water recedes, road repair work has to be started.
