Four more deaths have been reported due to the ongoing floods in 11 districts of Bangladesh, bringing the total number of fatalities to 31.
According to a report from the Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief on Wednesday (August 28), as of 1 PM, the floods have severely affected the districts of Feni, Comilla, Chattogram, Khagrachari, Noakhali, Moulvibazar, Habiganj, Brahmanbaria, Sylhet, Lakshmipur, and Cox’s Bazar. A total of 73 upazilas and 528 unions and municipalities in these districts have been impacted.
The floods have stranded 1,227,554 families across these 11 districts, with a total affected population of 5,822,734. So far, 31 people have died, with Comilla reporting the highest number of 12 deaths. Additionally, 2 people have died in Feni, 5 in Chattogram, 1 in Khagrachari, 6 in Noakhali, 1 in Brahmanbaria, 1 in Lakshmipur, and 3 in Cox’s Bazar.
To provide shelter to the displaced and affected people, a total of 4,003 shelters have been opened, accommodating 540,510 individuals. Furthermore, 39,531 livestock have been sheltered in these centers. A total of 619 medical teams have been deployed to provide medical care to those affected by the floods.
