A cold wave is currently affecting two districts in the country, and it may continue, according to the Meteorological Department.

This information was shared in the weather forecast on Sunday morning (January 19).

The forecast states that the extended part of the subcontinental high-pressure zone is spread across West Bengal and the western part of Bangladesh. The normal seasonal low-pressure area is situated in the southern Bay of Bengal, and its extended part reaches the northern Bay of Bengal.

As a result, it is expected that the day and night temperatures across the country may decrease by one to two degrees Celsius in the next 24 hours starting from 9 AM on Sunday. Light to moderate fog may form across the country from late night to early morning.

Additionally, a mild to moderate cold wave is currently affecting Panchagarh and Kurigram districts, and it may persist.

Meteorologist Md. Hafizur Rahman from the Meteorological Department mentioned that after January 20, temperatures in the northern region may drop slightly. There is a possibility of a short-lived mild cold wave during this time.

He said that the cold wave could intensify the feeling of winter in the north-western region. The amount of fog will increase across the country, and the chilly feeling could become more intense due to the cold winds.

It is also noted that the lowest recorded temperature in Dhaka and its surrounding areas at 6 AM today was 17.7°C, with humidity at 65%.
