Dhaka University (DU) assistant professor of Music Department Md Anamul Haque has been accused of offering an indecent sexual proposal to a female student. The student alleged that the teacher made unethical sexual proposals to her.
The
academic committee of the department has recommended that teacher Anamul Haque
be exempted from the educational activities for one year.
However,
the students of the department demanded that Anamul Haque be permanently
exempted. The academic committee of the department will meet on Sunday to
decide on their demand.
It is
to be noted that on August 14, a student of the Music Department filed a
written complaint with the chairman of the department, Debprasad Dawn, accusing
Enamul Haque of offering an indecent sexual proposal. In view of this, on August 17, Enamul was
recommended to be exempted from the educational activities.
According to the complaint, the teacher Enamul Haque called the student to a restaurant and proposed an unethical relationship. After that, teacher Anamul kept giving the same proposal to the student again and again. At one stage, the student recorded Enamul's conversation on her mobile phone and lodged a written complaint with the department chairman on August 14.
After
receiving the complaint, the music department formed a committee to investigate
the matter on August 16. Later, Anamul Haque confessed his crime to the
investigation committee and apologized. The inquiry committee submitted its
report on August 17. In the report, the committee said that the allegation against teacher Anamul Haque is true. According to sources in
the music department, the recommendation for the dismissal of teacher Anamul was finalized on the same day.
