The creator of the song “Laal Pahari’r Deshe Jaa” Arun Chakraborty has passed away. He breathed his last on Friday night at his residence, Sonajhuri, on Farm Side Road in Chunchura, after suffering from a heart attack. He was 80 years old at the time of his death. It seems that, after leaving the red hills, he has now embarked on his journey to the land of clouds.

Arun's daughter-in-law, Sudeshna Chakraborty, mentioned that he had attended the Jungle Mahal Festival in Kolkata’s Mohorkunj the previous day. He had caught a slight cold, and since the post-COVID period, he had been facing some lung issues.

After completing his studies at Shibpur Engineering College, Arun Chakraborty started working at Hindustan Motors. Alongside his job, he continued writing. He authored many poems, but it was “Laal Pahari’r Deshe Jaa, Ranga Matir Deshe Jaa” that brought him widespread recognition. This poem later turned into a song and gained popularity both within the country and abroad in multiple languages. Arun had a deep affection for Bengal's folk culture. He traveled through hills, forests, and tribal regions, creating works based on folk themes.

His body will be kept at the Rabindra Bhavan open stage in Chunchura for people to pay their last respects. His final rites will be conducted at Shyambabur Ghat.
