Poet Helal Hafiz Laid To Rest At Martyred Intellectuals' Graveyard

The burial of poet Helal Hafiz has been completed with state honors at the Martyred Intellectuals' Graveyard in Mirpur, the capital. The renowned poet was laid to rest at the graveyard at around 3:00 PM on Saturday (December 14).

Earlier, the poet’s first funeral prayer (namaz-e janaza) was held at the Bangla Academy, and the second one took place at the National Press Club. Relatives, admirers, and distinguished individuals paid their respects there.

On Friday afternoon, Helal Hafiz fell in the bathroom of the Super Home in Shahbagh, Dhaka, causing severe bleeding. The Super Home authorities broke open the bathroom door and rescued him. He was later taken to Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University, where doctors declared him dead.

Helal Hafiz had been suffering from glaucoma for a long time, along with kidney complications, diabetes, and neurological issues. He was 76 years old at the time of his death. Helal Hafiz was born on October 7, 1948, in Netrokona.
