BNP senior leader Gayeshwar Chandra Roy on Thursday voiced resentment against his party MPs recent activities, which, he believed, apparently tried to tarnish Khaleda Zia's image as an 'uncompromising' leader.

Speaking at a discussion event, the BNP leader further said: "They [MPs] tried to exhibit activities before people in a bid to highlight that they are very sincere about madam's [Khaleda] release...but they were caught while making efforts to remove Khaleda Zia's title of uncompromising leader."

Zia Shishu Kishore Mela Kendriya Sangsad arranged the program at the National Press Club, demanding the release of BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia, reports UNB.

Gayeshwar, a BNP standing committee member, said Khaleda Zia will not compromise with the government. "She won't receive anybody's compassion or want to be freed on parole. She has been an uncompromising leader," he added.

The BNP veteran said Khaleda Zia will be freed through a movement, and his party will continue its agitation in this regard.

Gayeshwar also said though their jailed chairperson is physically week, her morale is very strong and she will not bow down to anybody.

On Wednesday last, four BNP MPs met Khaleda at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) and later they urged Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to see their ailing chairperson for herself and take steps for her release on bail.

On Tuesday, three more BNP lawmakers have also met Khaleda at BSMMU, and they said she is willing to go abroad for treatment if she is granted bail.

Khaleda has been in jail, since she was convicted in Zia Orphanage Trust corruption case on February 8, 2018.

About the government's current anti-graft crackdown, Gayeshwar said this is nothing, but a stage show to divert people's attention in a different direction from the country's problems.

"I think the government has pre-arranged recent crackdowns to make a monkey out of people to mislead them and continue its misdeeds," he said.

The BNP leader said the country's economy has become bankrupt while banks have got depleted. "That's why they [government] are staging mini-dramas to divert people's attention from one such bankruptcy to another direction."

He said the government may surprise people by arresting a few men amid a dramatic chain of events, but it will not help free the country from corruption.
