Man held with 15kg gold at Ctg airport

Customs officials have detained a man with 130 gold bars weighing 15 kilograms at Shah Amanat International Airport in Chattogram. 

The detainee, 22-year-old Joynal Abedin arrived in Chattogram—from Sharjah—on an Air Arabia flight on Friday (Oct 18) around 8:10 am, confirmed Customs house Deputy Commissioner Riadul Islam.

He said that customs officials detained Joynal because of his suspicious movement, and searched his luggage.

"We seized six charging lights from his possession. Joynal hid the gold bars in the battery cases of the charging lights," he added.

He said that the gold bars have a market value of Tk 65 million and that a case will be opened against him soon.
