EU Ambassador to Spread Fakir Lalon's Philosophy

European Union (EU) Ambassador and Head of Delegation to Bangladesh Rensje Teerink hosted an event featuring Lalon music at her residence yesterday night in an attempt to spread the powerful and peaceful messages of Lalon songs around the world.

Prime Minister’s International Affairs Adviser Dr. GowherRizvi, President of Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) President Dr. Rubana Huq, diplomats stationed in Dhaka, civil society members, and senior journalists were present.

“All humans are equal,” Ambassador Teerink said adding that the messages of these songs are so important.

She said the music and tradition are so rich that they should be really supported by all. “It (Lalon music) deserves to get a big platform.”

German Ambassador to Bangladesh Peter Fahrenholtz said he likes Lalon music so much. “When I came to Bangladesh I discovered this really old, traditional, beautiful music and I’m deeply moved.”

He desired to travel to Kusthia to attend the Lalon Festival where he can spend two or three days and get to know many Bauls of this country.

The Bauls who performed at the event said they sing to honor the creator, promoter and pioneer of a genre of folk songs.
