Coronavirus: Int’l Passenger Flights to Remain Suspended until April 7

On Saturday Bangladesh extended the suspension of foreign passenger flight to April 7 to avoid coronavirus transmission in the region.

"The suspension of international scheduled passenger flights has been extended to April 7 instead of March 31," a Bangladesh Civil Aviation press release said.

Meanwhile, suspension of inbound flights will also be extended until April 7, it said.

On March 26, Bangladesh suspended flights to all countries except the UK and China until April 15 following the global outbreak of coronavirus.

Air vice-marshal M Mafidur Rahman, chairman of the Bangladesh Civil Aviation Authority, said that flight operations with Bangkok remained suspended from Thursday midnight and with Hong Kong from March 29.

Bangladesh discontinued on-arrival visas for two weeks for all countries on 15 March. On top of this, passengers from all European countries except England will not be permitted to reach Bangladesh until March 31.

On March 19, Biman Bangladesh Airlines canceled all of its flights to Dubai and Abu Dhabi.

In a bid to prevent the spread of coronavirus in the country, the government has gone for communications shutdown, suspending bus, train, launch, rail and air services across the country.
