COVID-19: Bangladesh to Receive 300,000 Masks from Jack Ma Foundation Sunday

Jack Ma Foundation and Alibaba Foundation is sending 300,000 masks after coronavirus testing kits which will be delivered on Sunday.

"With love from China to our frontline medical personnel battling day and night with the pandemic, 300,000 masks are being manufactured in China by the Jack Ma Foundation and the Alibaba Foundation and will arrive tomorrow (Sunday)," said Yan Hualong, Deputy Chief of Mission at the Chinese Embassy in Dhaka on Saturday.

On Friday, some 30 000 more coronavirus research kits arrived in Dhaka from China as a gift from the Jack Ma Foundation and Alibaba Foundation to Bangladesh.

Earlier, Alibaba Group's co-founder and former executive chairman Jack Ma declared that he will support Bangladesh and some other Asian nations control coronavirus spread.

Ma promised to donate emergency supplies, including masks, test kits, protective suits, plus ventilators and thermometers.

Meanwhile, Bangladesh got the second shipment of medical supplies from China on Thursday afternoon, comprising 10,000 evaluation sets, 10,000 personal protective equipment (PPE), and 1,000 infrared thermometers.

Chinese Ambassador to Bangladesh Li Jiming said Bangladesh would be able to fight against COVID-19 with help from China and other countries, noting that China's help for Bangladesh will continue on all fronts.

"Be confident, Bangladesh. You're going to prevail," the ambassador said, assuring that if China can succeed, Bangladesh will win the fight, too.

Local companies are also producing PPE and masks to address their needs.

Bangladesh announced its first coronavirus cases on March 8.
