Prime Minister Sheik Hasina has called the people to refrain from conducting any large festivities welcoming the Bangla New Year to curb the coronavirus pandemic outbreak.
He also urged all to "digitally" observe Pohela Baishakh, the first day of the Bangla month.
The call by the Prime Minister came from Ganabhaban in Dhaka on Tuesday (Mar 31) while addressing a video conference, with officials from 64 districts organizing ongoing activities to contain coronavirus.
Hasina has suggested expanding the general holiday to keep coronavirus from spreading to 9 Apr.
On Mar 23, the government declared general holidays from Mar 26 to Apr 4.
