Govt’s Relief Programs Cover All across Country: Razzaque

Agriculture Minister Dr Muhammad Abdur Razzaque said that none remain beyond the scope of humanitarian assistance and relief programs as the government is unable to access relief products throughout the world in the light of the COVID-19 crisis.

“None is out of the purview of humanitarian assistance and relief programs of the government… there are sufficient relief goods. All (people of the country) will get the assistance in phases,” he said while distributing relief goods among 300 destitute families maintaining social distancing properly at Paiska High School playground.

Urging the people to work peacefully with the administration, Razzaque said, "This administration is people-friendly and public-oriented. The government is still behind you.

He told citizens to obey the safety laws and policy recommendations to keep them healthy from coronavirus infection.

The agriculture minister distributed relief goods among more than 300 destitute families at the college playground under the auspices of Dhanbari Paurasabha Mayor Khandoker Manjurul Islam Tapan.

Later, he exchanged views with the local administration, public representatives, and law enforcement agencies on combating COVID-19, relief distribution, and harvesting paddy at Dhanbari Upazila auditorium.

While exchanging views, the agriculture minister urged all to implement the government’s directives at the field level properly to fight the coronavirus.

Referring to the local public representatives, Razzaque said, “The government has taken ‘zero tolerance’ policy against relief misappropriation. No incident of irregularities will be spared”.

Upazila Chairman Harunur Rashid Hira, Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Arifa Siddiqa and Circle ASP Kamran Hossain joined the view exchange meeting, among others.

Speaking about paddy harvesting, the agriculture minister said a target has been set up to produce over 2.04 lakh metric tons of Boro rice this year.

Noting that around 55 percent of the overall rice output comes from the Boro variety, he said that specific agricultural machinery, including some 800 combine harvesters and 400 harvesters, at the cost of Taka 100 crore, had already been made accessible to farmers while the project was underway to hit the same amount of agricultural equipment to farmers soon at the cost of more than Taka 100 crore.

Later, Razzaque distributed relief items among 2,500 destitute families as humanitarian assistance at Madhupur Upazila in the district this afternoon
