The long-route bus service will remain shut during the forthcoming Eid-ul-Fitr holidays, with the intention of combating the spread of coronavirus.
The announcement was made by the order of the Cabinet Division on Monday.
Officials concerned were of the view that the decision to close inter-district bus services is good, as bus travel may cause virus infections.
Meanwhile, the government has extended the existing general holidays to May 16 by 11 days to reduce the spread of the epidemic.
Bangladesh confirmed the first cases of COVID-19 on 8 March and has seen a rise in the number of infections and deaths since then.
Today the country recorded 688 coronavirus patients, the highest single-day spike, taking the total to 10,143, and total deaths 182.
