Bhutanese PM Phones Sheikh Hasina, Extends Eid Greetings

Bhutanese Prime Minister Lotay Tshering phoned his Bangladeshi counterpart, Sheikh Hasina, on Saturday and extended his greetings to her on the occasion of Holy Eid-ul - Fitr, the largest Muslim religious festival.

“The Bhutanese premier phoned the Bangladesh prime minister at about 7:55 pm and extended Eid-ul-Fitr greetings to her (Sheikh Hasina) and the people of Bangladesh,” PM’s Press Secretary Ihsanul Karim told media.

He said that during a 15-minute chat, the Bangladeshi premier also extended his greetings to Lotay Tshering and the Bhutanese citizens on the occasion of the Eid-ul - Fitr.

The press secretary stated that the Bhutanese prime minister asked about the harm done by the supercyclone Amphan in Bangladesh and conveyed condolences for the loss of life and properties incurred by the cyclone.

The Prime Minister of Bangladesh thanked her Bhutanese counterpart for making a phone call and voicing condolences for the harm done by Amphan.

The issue of the ongoing coronavirus situation also came up for discussion between the two leaders, Karim said.
