7-Year-Old Disabled Child Killed after Kidnapping in Gazipur

A disabled child was found dead one day after he was kidnapped for ransom in Gazipur.

The corpse of the child, Fahim, 7, was discovered inside a plastic bag, discarded in a bush in a deserted place not far from his home on Tuesday.

The victim is the son of Kamrul Islam of the district.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Gazipur Metropolitan (GMP) Basan police station Rafiqul Islam confirmed the incident.

Kamrul Islam, a victim's father from Shurmukhya village under Atpara Netrokona Police Station, said he and his family were living in a rented house in Naljani Madhyapara district under the Gazipur City Corporation. He and his wife operate in a nearby garment factory, usually keeping their 7-year-old disabled son at home.

Kamrul and his wife came home after their lunch break on Monday to notice that Fahim was missing. Despite their best attempts, they were unable to locate him.

Earlier, on Monday night, anonymous people phoned them to demand a ransom of Tk50,000 for Fahim 's return, threatening to kill him if they weren't paid.

Fearing the safety of his brother, Kamrul instantly sent Tk2,000 over Bkash. But the kidnappers declined to release Fahim until the entire sum was paid.

Eventually, about midnight, Kamrul agreed to notify the police of the accident.

About sunset the next day, Fahim 's dead body was discovered inside a plastic container, which was discarded in a neighboring bush.

Primary post mortem indicates that he was killed by suffocation.

No arrests have been made in connection to the case thus far.
