Fresh Flood May Hit As River Water Rising

A fresh flood may hit the country’s northern region as water of the Brahmaputra and Jamuna rivers is in upward trend by the onrush of upstream water from the border region on Thursday.

“The Brahmaputra and Jamuna rivers are in rising trend and it may remain steady in the next 24 hours,” said Arifuzzaman Bhuiyan, executive engineer of the Flood Forecasting and Warning Centre (FFWC).

So far, flooding has claimed lives of at least 199 people in the country, official statistics say.

A total of 14,895 people—9,199 with skin diseases and 4,668 with RTI — were affected by diarrhea in 33 flood-hit districts from June 30 to August 11, according to the Health Emergency Operations Centre.

Inundated residents in various places spend days in severe poverty as the flood washes away all their property, including homes, croplands, livestock and other valuables.

We suffer a great deal from severe food scarcity and clean drinking water as long as the floodwater starts to recede. They 're in search of flood relief.

Displaced citizens who returned home after strengthening the flood situation have now hurried to safety on the lakes, rivers, highlands and flood centers with their domestic animals and valuables as the river's water increases again on Thursday.

“The Ganges-Padma river is in falling trend and it may continue in the next 48 hours. The rivers of the Upper Meghna basin in the North-Eastern region of the country are in falling trend except the Kushiyara & Someswari. The rivers of the Upper Meghna basin may fall in the next 24 hours,” the FFWC says.

Marooned residents have to survive under the open skies because their homes have been swept away by floodwaters. They also endured major losses when their croplands were all swept away.

Currently, they are finding assistance in constructing their houses and planting crops again on the property.

The Government has provided relief to the victims of the floods in the affected regions, but they are not sufficient, said the victims.

Labour crisis in the flood-hit areas has also affected the people and they are passing life with endless hopes of government assistance.

Three main rivers meet above the danger level at three river stations on a daytime basis, according to the FFWC.

Scores of homes, hospitals, universities, churches, and roads passed under rivers leading to unbridled flooding of the water. The flooding of the river has left thousands of residents homeless.

While, flood victims are urgently searching for help as they glance at the boat or the car in the flood-affected regions, trying to get help.

Flood-affected residents have suffered from severe food scarcity, safe drinking water and diesel oil, while policy aid becomes too inadequate to satisfy their needs.

Local people have apprehended an outbreak of diarrhoea and other waterborne diseases in the flood-affected areas.

However, some areas are still flooded and a lot of houses need to be repaired and cleaned.
