17 Drowned in Flood Waters in Eight Districts

At least 18 people died and four others were missing after floodwaters receded in eight districts of the country on Tuesday (August 4th). The dead included a mother-son and three siblings from the same family.

Sherpur': Three children drowned in Sreevardi in the district. Jannat (5), Siam (6) and Musafir (6), died at different times on Tuesday (August 4). The house of the deceased Jannat and Siam is in Nilkhia of Bakshiganj.

Lalmonirhat: Anwarul Haque, 25, and Brishti Begum, 19, drowned in the Sati River at noon on Tuesday (August 4) while visiting their uncle's house in Lalmonirhat. The newlyweds died after taking a bath in the Sati river in the Jagatber area of ​​Rajpur union in Sadar Upazila of the district. They got married 6-7 months ago. The information was confirmed by Faruk Hossain, uncle of Brishti, Habildar Abdur Rahman of Lalmonirhat Sadar Fire Service Station and Mofazzal Hossain Mofa, chairman of Rajpur Union Parishad.

Panchagarh: Two children drowned in a pond in Panchagarh. Both are two years old. The two separate incidents took place in Tentulia and Atwari Upazilas of Panchagarh district on Tuesday (August 4).

Jamalpur: Two children, Siam (6) and Jannat (5), drowned in a pond and floodwaters in Bakshiganj upazila of the district. The incident took place at around 12 noon on Tuesday (August 4) in Jhalopara area of ​​Nilakshia union in Bakshiganj upazila. The deceased Siam is the son of Liton Miah of Jhalorapara area and Jannat is the daughter of Rashed Miah of the same area.

According to the Kurigram correspondent, a two-and-a-half-year-old child named Nuraiya Khatun drowned in the floodwaters at Ulipur in the district. The incident took place at Miaji Para village in Ward 5 of Begumganj Union of the Upazila on Tuesday (August 4) afternoon. The deceased was identified as Begum Alam, daughter of Nur Alam of the village. Begumganj Union Parishad Chairman Belal Hossain said the child fell into the floodwaters near the house without the knowledge of the family. Later, his relatives searched for him and rescued him.

The chairman said that two children drowned in the ongoing floods in the village. A total of 24 people, including 19 children, have drowned in the ongoing floods in Kurigram.

Meanwhile, a mother and son drowned when their dinghy sank in the historic Raktadaha Bill at Adamdighi in Bogra on Tuesday afternoon. The deceased were identified as Chandni Begum, 29, wife of Shahid Hossain of Sandira village under Adamdighi upazila and their child Mohammad Shad, 7.

On the other hand, three brothers and sisters drowned in the Charmastal Charpara area of ​​Daulatpur Upazila of Manikganj district at around 2.15 pm. The deceased were identified as Hanufa, 38, her sister Roxana, 30, and brother Riazul, 25. Two more children are missing in the incident.

Besides, a woman named Dulan Akhter (38) was killed when her boat sank in Baniachang haor of Habiganj. Two people including father and son are missing.
