Bangamata’s Birth Anniversary Being Observed across Country

The 90th anniversary of the birth of Bangamata Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Mujib, the wife of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, is being observed across the country today.

Born on August 8, 1930, in the village of Tungipara in Gopalganj, she was brutally killed by the assassins of the Father of the Nation on August 15, 1975.

The Ministry of Women and Children 's Affairs has taken elaborate programs to celebrate the birth anniversary of Bangamata Sheik Fazilatunnesa Mujib nationwide. This year's theme of the day is 'Bangamata is a courageous sign of courage and beauty.'    

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is scheduled to attend the Bangamata Fazilatunnesa Mujib Birthday Celebration Program on the Ganabhaban virtual platform as Chief Guest, reports BSS.

Begum Matia Chowdhury, Awami League Presidium Member, will present the keynote paper at the Birth Day Celebration Programme.

Minister of State for Women and Children Fazilatun Nessa Indira will lead the Bangamata Birth Anniversary Celebration Program at the Bangladesh Shishu Academy auditorium.

On Bangamata's birthday, the ministry will provide sewing machines and cash via mobile banking to troubled women who have already been hit by the COVID-19 pandemic.

The program will provide a total of 3,200 sewing machines and Taka 26 lakh — Taka 2,000 each — to 1,300 women in distress as per the enrolment of beneficiaries provided by the Deputy Commissioners of 64 districts.

At the same period, 100 laptops will be provided to needy, well-deserved students in the Goplaganj district.

The financial grant will be transferred formally to the mobile numbers of the beneficiaries by the Prime Minister through the electronic system.

On behalf of the Prime Minister, the Deputy Commissioner of Gopalganj will hand over the sewing machines and laptops among the beneficiaries.

To mark the birth anniversary, the subordinate organizations and agencies under the Ministry of Women and Children Affairs will hold discussions in coordination with all the district administration.

In fact, live documentaries will be shown and souvenirs will be released focused on the glamorous daily life of Bangamata. Bangladesh Television, Bangladesh Betar and other electronic media will air special programs on the occasion of the anniversary of the founding of Bangamata.

Many projects have been implemented by numerous social and cultural groups, including the Awami League.

Of the programmes of the Awami League, the recitation of the Holy Quran, the Milad and the Doa-mahfil will take place after paying rich homage to the tomb of Shaheed Fazilatunnesa in Banani.

The Bangladesh Awami League and its Dhaka City North and Dhaka City South Units will engage in the programme.

To mark Bangamata’s birth anniversary, Bangladesh Krishak League will organize a discussion and doa mahfil at Awami League central office at Bangabandhu Avenue at 12pm today. Information Minister and Awami League joint general secretary Dr Hasan Mahmud will attend the programme as the chief guest.

Awami League General Secretary and Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader urged all members and staff of the ruling party and its allies to celebrate the anniversary of the birth of Bangamata Sheik Fazilatunnesa Mujib in an apt manner.
