MC College Gang-Rape: 3 More Accused Remanded

Three more accused have been placed on a five-day remand in a case lodged over the gang-rape of a woman at Sylhet's MC College hostel.

They are Rony, Rajon and Ainul.

Sylhet Metropolitan Magistrate Saifur Rahman issued the remand when they were produced before the court with a plea of seven-day remand, said Amullo Bhushan Chowdhury, assistant commissioner (prosecution) of Sylhet Metropolitan Police.

Earlier, the prime accused, Saifur Rahman, Arjun Lashkar and Robiul Islam, were placed on a five-day remand in the case.

Rony was arrested from a house in Shayestaganj, Habiganj, while Rapid Action Battalion arrested Rajon and Ainul from Sylhet's Fenchuganj on Monday morning.

Six accused have so far been arrested over the gang-rape.

On the afternoon of September 25, a couple from South Surma visited MC College in Sylhet. Five to six leaders and activists of the Chhatra League seized them, took them to the dormitory, and beat both of them. Later on, he bound her husband and raped her in front of him.

The next day, the victim's husband filed a case against nine people at the Shahparan City Police Station, naming six people. All six accused are activists of the Bangladesh Chhatra League. They are Saifur Rahman, Mahbubur Rahman Rony, Tarek, Arjun Lanka, Rabiul Islam and Mahfuzur Rahman. The victim is currently admitted to the Osmani Hospital OCC in Sylhet.
