Bangladesh's Child Marriage Rate Highest in South Asia

The rate of child marriage in Bangladesh is the highest in South Asia. Even, Bangladesh is among the top-10 countries in the world in terms of child marriage.

A notification of the UNICEF Dhaka office revealed this information on Wednesday. 

UNICEF has called for strong action in ending child marriage in Bangladesh by 2030. 

The notification stated that stopping child marriage is a priority of the Government of Bangladesh and UNICEF.

With a view to ending child marriage, efforts are needed to bring further changes in Bangladesh in achieving Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) by 2030 while the national goal by 2041. 

In achieving the national goal, the rate of stopping child marriage will have to be at least eight times faster than in the last decade.

On the other hand, the rate of stopping child marriage has to be seventeen times faster for meeting the SDG target.
