Agriculture Ministry to Increase Potato Price

Dr. Abdur Razzak, the Minister of Agriculture, said the government will reset the price of potato today.

We have collected market data and will set the price again in the interests of traders and customers, "the minister said today at his Secretariat office in the capital while briefing the media."

"The price will be fixed in between Tk30 to 35," he said further adding, "It is difficult to control the market if the supply is inadequate."

In the meantime, amid the skyrocketing price of vegetables, Dhaka's wholesalers have decided to stop selling potatoes in fear of facing raids and fines, although the country recorded record production and adequate potatoes in stock.

Earlier, the government fixed the maximum retail price of potato at Tk 30 per kg as the price of the vegetable rose up to a record high of Tk 50-55 per kg last week.
