The government has re-fixed Tk 35 per kg of potatoes at the retail market, raising Tk 5 from the previous price of Tk 30 per kg, said Agricultural Minister Abdur Razzak.

According to the Department of Agricultural Extension, the production cost of one kg of potato this year was Tk 8.40. Around 10.9 million tonnes of potatoes were produced in the country.

The annual demand for potatoes in the country is around 7.7 million tons while two million tonnes of potatoes are preserved as seed.

Potatoes have been selling at the retail market around Tk 50 per kg for the last few weeks. The prices of other vegetables have also gone up.
