Minister Stands by Raped Woman in Rajshahi

State Minister for foreign affairs Shahriar Alam has taken responsibility for a child going to be born out of rape of a woman at Bagha Upazila in Rajshahi.

Grocer Badsha Alam, on the promise of marriage, violated the woman. The woman became powerless after being born as her lover refused to get married.

The Minister has come forward to bear the burden of the woman's care before delivery and her baby's nursing costs.

On Friday evening, the woman underwent a physical examination. Fatema Masud Lata, the President of the Bagha Upazila Mohila Awami League, confirmed the matter to the media.

The victim filed a case against the grocer on September 29. Police arrested the accused lover five days after filing the case. The arrestee is in prison at present, Fatema added.
