Human Chain of Mountain Lovers to Save Nature and People

A peaceful human chain and protest rally was held with the participation of conscious nature and mountain-loving people to stop deforestation in the Chittagong Hill Tracts, protect biodiversity and stop the uprooting of Mro people.

The human chain was organized at the city's Shahbagh area on Friday.

Speakers at the gathering said the natural beauty of the Chittagong Hill Tracts and the diverse and colorful culture of different ethnic groups are the resources of Bangladesh. ''Our mountains are the last refuge of natural forests and many wildlife. Regrettably, we have lost invaluable forests and biodiversity in the vicious cycle of environmental and nature destruction. At the same time, some vested interests are occupying the lands of the local people and building various institutions. Recently, its level seems to be exceeding the limit.''

Regarding their demands, the organizers said, "We have learned that we are deeply concerned and concerned about the suicidal move to build a five-star hotel on Chimbuk Hill without considering the environment and rehabilitation of the local Mro people." If a hotel is built in such a place, the hill people will lose their habitat and move to more depths, which will put more pressure on the forest. Nature and the environment have to pay the price.''

Recalling the role of Mro for peace in the mountains, the speakers said, ''Mro has historically made a special contribution to the establishment of peace in Bangladesh. During the turbulent times in the Chittagong Hill Tracts, Mro Rao also joined hands with law enforcement agencies to counter various terrorist groups. As a result, Mro gave a lot of life while being in a dispute with the terrorist groups in the mountains at that time. We can't push the lives of these simple hill people into uncertainty by occupying their settlements and agricultural lands.''

In a press release, they added that we are currently witnessing the horrific nature of what could happen as a result of the destruction of biodiversity and the environment. Untimely floods, landslides, waterless floods - all these have been due to nature-destroying activities. If we do not protect the nature of our mountains and this invaluable human resource, we will be guilty of it to the next generation.

So let us all together stop all kinds of mischievous attempts of various vested interests in the name of destruction and development of environment and forest.
