Mir Nasir Gets Bail in Corruption Case

On Sunday, the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court granted bail to BNP leader and former Minister of Civil Aviation Mir Mohammad Nasiruddin in a corruption case in which he was sentenced to 13 years in prison, given the current situation of the Covid-19 pandemic.

A three-member Appellate Division, headed by Chief Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain, granted bail following a petition filed by Mir Mohammad Nasiruddin.

On 8 November last year, a court in Dhaka sent Mir Mohammad Nasiruddin to jail on surrender in the same corruption case.

Mir Mohammad Nasiruddin then filed a petition with the apex court seeking bail in the case on health ground.

On 6 March 2007, the ACC brought an action against Mir Nasir and his son Mir Mohammad Helal to the Gulshan Police Station, alleging that they obtained illegal assets and had hidden property information.

According to the charge sheet, Nasir, his wife late Dalia Naznin Nasir, their daughter and son have wealth worth Tk29.22crore. But, they showed properties worth about Tk22.50crore in the wealth statement, hiding information of properties.
