CTTC Seeks Permission to Grill Didarul, Minhaz in DSA Case

The Counter-Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) Unit of police on Monday sought permission to interrogate Didarul Bhuiyan and Minhaz Mannan Emon in a case filed under the Digital Security Act for their ''anti-government posts'' on Facebook.

CTTC filed a petition with the court of Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Abu Bakar Siddique and the court fixed March 10 to hear it.

The court also asked the two accused — Didarul, leader of sociopolitical collective Rashtrochinta (Statecraft), and Dhaka Stock Exchange Director Minhaz — to appear before it on March 10 for the hearing.

CTTC's Sub-Inspector Absar Ahmed filed the petition.

Didarul and Minhaz had secured bail on September 14 last year.

Warrant Officer Md Abu Bakar Siddique of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) filed the case on May 5, 2020, under the Digital Security Act against 11 people, including Minhaz, cartoonist Ahmed Kabir Kishore and writer Mushtaq Ahmed.

According to the case statement, the accused misled people by spreading rumors.

Meanwhile, on February 23, police had sought a three-day remand to interrogate Kishore and Mushtaq.

After Mushtaq died in prison on February 25, Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Mohammad Jasim rejected the remand petition on Sunday.

On Monday, the High Court also fixed Wednesday to order on a bail petition by Kishore, who has been in jail for over nine months after being arrested in the case.
