Schedule for By-Polls to 4 Vacant Constituencies on June 2

The Election Commission (EC) has not announced the schedule for by-elections to four vacant constituencies although there was a prior declaration that the schedule will be announced on May 24 (today).

The schedule for by-polls to vacant constituencies will be declared on June 2 after a meeting at the EC. Besides, the decision on holding all elections, including union Parishad (UP), will be notified.

EC Senior secretary Md Humayun Kabir Khandaker disclosed this information after attending the 80th meeting of the Commission on Monday.     

He said the EC has not declared the schedule for by-elections to vacant constituencies due to the extension of the ongoing restrictions in a bid to prevent corona infection. And the date of voting will be informed on June 2.

Earlier on May 19, he said that the by-elections to Laxmpur-2, Sylhet-3, Dhaka-14 and Cumilla-5 will be held in July. And the schedule for elections to those constituencies will be announced on May 24.
