edotco Bangladesh, an integrated telecommunications infrastructure services company in Bangladesh, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) yesterday to build smart poles in the dense urban areas of the city corporation.  This unique public-private partnership will ensure that citizens have access and improved connectivity within Dhaka City. The deployment of this smart pole brings the public private ecosystem together in a joint effort to provide uninterrupted connectivity to the citizens.

This smart pole street furniture solution will boost network coverage ensuring the demand for increased data usage is met. With the current growth in data traffic, rather than building additional tower sites in close proximity of each other this innovative, sustainable solution will be able to ease data congestion while ensuring an enhanced customer experience. Built as 4G/5G ready infrastructure, the deployment of these solutions are also in line with meeting the nation’s digital ambitions.

Under the project, smart features like free wifi, digitalized waste management system through smart bins and real-time air quality monitoring features will be provided in key locations, all of which will come as a benefit to the citizens. The integrated solution will also have provisions for security surveillance, energy-saving LED light and digital signage.

Speaking at the occasion, Md. Atiqul Islam, Hon’ble Mayor of DNCC, said, “We are committed to ensuring improved city experience to our citizens. By turning Dhaka into a Smart City through such smart city initiatives, we will move one step closer to achieving the Digital Bangladesh vision. Fundamentally, a consolidated and standardized mobile network structure is an inseparable component of the Smart City. With that notion, we’re excited to jointly work with edotco to ensure our citizens get the most accessible connectivity anytime, anywhere.”

At the signing ceremony, Ricky Steyn, Country Managing Director of edotco Bangladesh, said, “Our partnership with DNCC is the testament our commitment of partnering towards developing an enhanced, sustainable telecommunications landscape that fits with urban planning aesthetics.  edotco has been playing a pivotal role in developing a sustainable telecommunication ecosystem in Bangladesh and will continue to partner with players within the ecosystem towards achieving its Digital Bangladesh vision. Furthermore, we aspire to not only create a city that is seamlessly connected but also one that will give the city dwellers a feeling of living in a city that is well connected, safe, and secured.”

Present at this momentous MoU signing ceremony were Hon’ble Mayor of DNCC, Md. Atiqul Islam, Chief Town Planner Maqsud Hashem, Country Managing Director of edotco Bangladesh, Ricky Steyn, Director, Corporate Affairs & Planning Division Ishrat Zerin and Head of Sales and Marketing Reven Dewan along with the other high officials of DNCC and edotco Bangladesh.
