Local authorities have imposed strict restrictions in the Mirpur municipal area of Kushtia district for a week to break the chain of Covid-19 transmission.
The restrictions came into force at 6 am on Thursday, and will continue till June 23.
All standalone shops and markets, except the kitchen markets and local pharmacies, will remain closed during the week-long restrictions. Anyone found violating health protocols will be penalized.
The health authorities on Wednesday recorded 98 fresh cases in the district in 24 hours after testing 239 samples.
So far, 5,834 people have contracted coronavirus in the district, said Kushtia Civil Surgeon Dr. AHM Anwarul Islam.
