Two groups of Awami League (AL)
activists clashed in the Madhabdi municipality area of Narsingdi on Wednesday
night, injuring at least eight persons.
Among the injured, Md Zakaria,
42, former president of Sadar Thana Chhatra League and former commissioner of
Madhabdi municipality; and Abul Kalam, 38, secretary of Nuralapur union unit of Swechhasebak League sustained bullet injuries, Madhabdi Police Station
Officer-in-Charge Syeduzzaman said to media.
After initial treatment, they
were transferred to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH), he said.
According to locals, an executive
committee meeting was conducted at Madhabdi's Romoni Community Centre to form a
committee of union and ward units to commemorate the Awami League's 72nd
founding anniversary.
When an argument erupted because
the mayor of the local municipality was not invited to the meeting, the
conflict began.
