Bangladesh has launched the second phase of mass vaccination by administering Chinese Sinopharm Covid-19 vaccine doses across the country.

The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) began the vaccination programme on Saturday by setting up four vaccination centres in Dhaka, and one in other districts, reports media.

The four centres in Dhaka are Dhaka Medical College, Sir Salimullah Medical College, Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College and Mugda Medical College Hospital.

People who have already registered will receive the Sinopharm vaccine.

Also, Chinese citizens living in Bangladesh, government health workers, members of law enforcement agencies, medical students and migrant workers approved by the Manpower Development Bureau will be given priority during the second phase, according to DGHS.

So far, 72,48,829 people have registered. Of these, 58,20,015 received the first dose of Oxford-Astrazeneca vaccine. Almost 15 lakh people are waiting for the second dose of Covid-19 vaccine.

After administering the remaining vaccine doses in stock, three per cent of the people in Bangladesh will come under vaccination against Covid-19.

The vaccination campaign in the country is conducted under the Maternal Neonatal Child and Adolescent Health of the DGHS.
