40 Districts in Bangladesh at Very High Risk of Covid Infection: WHO

According to the World Health Organization, Bangladesh currently accounts for 0.48 percent of the world's total Covid-19 infection rate and at least 40 districts of it are at high risk of infection. 

Of them, 15 districts have been identified as high-risk zones and six as medium-risk zones.

Amid the ongoing surge of the deadly disease, Bangladesh ranks 30th in the world and 8th in Asia in the ratio of infected patients with Covid-19.

After analyzing the sample test and infection rate in different districts of Bangladesh from 14 to 20 June the World Health Organization (WHO) published the information.

The WHO report said districts with an infection rate of 10 percent or more were identified as very high-risk areas. The infection rate between 5 to 10 percent was identified as high risk and where infection rate was less than 5 percent were identified as low-risk areas.

Of these, at least 10 districts of Khulna division are at very high risk of infection. Seven districts from Dhaka division, Six districts from Chattogram and Rajshahi are also on the list.

However, the capital Dhaka is considered risky while the port city of Chattogram is considered an extremely risky zone.

The very high-risk districts are - Thakurgaon, Lalmonirhat, Dinajpur, Rangpur, Kurigram, Joypurhat, Naogaon, Bogura, Chapainawabganj, Rajshahi, Natore, Rajbari, Jhenaidah, Magura, Faridpur, Jashore, Narail, Madaripur, Gopalgonj, Satkhira, Khulna, Bagerhat, Jhalokathi, Pirojpur, Barisal, Chandpur, Feni, Sherpur, Jamalpur, Tangail, Gazipur, Kishoreganj, Sylhet, Kushtia, Meherpur, Chuadanga, Noakhali, Chattogram, Cox's Bazar and Khagrachhari.

The high-risk districts are - Dhaka, Panchagarh, Nilphamari, Gaibandha, Mymensingh, Netrokona, Sunamganj, Moulovibazar, Habiganj, Sirajganj, Pabna, Cumilla, Munshiganj, Laxmipur and Rangamati.

However, Bandarban district was not considered while compiling the list as the infection rate is still very low.
