ADC Saqlain Withdrawn from DB

Golam Saqlain Shithil, additional deputy commissioner of the Detective Branch of Police (Gulshan Division), has been withdrawn from all his duties at the DB over his alleged unprofessional conduct with actress Pori Moni, reports media.

DB Additional Commissioner AKM Hafiz Akhter confirmed the matter on Saturday.

"We have learnt about the allegations, which is why Saqlain will no longer remain with the DMP's (Dhaka Metropolitan Police) Detective Branch," he said.

A probe body will be formed by the police headquarters to investigate the matter, Hafiz Akhter said.

"We will make a decision on taking any disciplinary steps in this regard after a proper investigation of the allegations," he added.

Meanwhile, DMP Commissioner Shafiqul Islam said action will be taken against Saqlain if the allegations against him was found true.

Film actress Pori Moni, whose allegation of rape attempt on her by businessman Nasir U Mahmud and others prompted a firestorm in social media barely two months back, was detained from her Banani residence on the night of August 4.

The intelligence unit of RAB, led by Lt Col Khairul Islam, started a drive at her residence around 4:00pm on the day and detained her after three hours of search.

A huge quantity of liquor was seized from her flat, RAB sources said.

A case was filed against Pori Moni under the Narcotics Control Act the next day following her detention. The case was handed over to the DB Police for further investigation on August 6.
