Health Minister Zahid Maleque said all kinds of restrictions to curb coronavirus spread had been lifted considering people's livelihood and to avoid an economic decline, reports media.

Urging everyone to follow health guidelines, he said, "Now we have to rely on hygiene, vaccines and masks."

He made the remarks while participating in a virtual discussion on National Mourning Day at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) at 11:00am Saturday.

"Vaccination campaign is being expedited across the country under the direction of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. Everything has been opened for the sake of livelihood, but we must remember that people's lives are much more precious,” said the minister.

“The whole world is now affected by the Covid-19 pandemic. More than four million people have died. Our country has it under control compared to other countries,” he further said.

"Although poverty levels have risen in many countries during the pandemic period, we are in a better position so far. Our average life expectancy has increased. The country has advanced in education. There are more than 100 universities in the country. Millions of us work abroad. They send remittances."

Minister for Road, Transport and Bridges and General Secretary of Bangladesh Awami League Obaidul Quader was present as the chief guest on the occasion. Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) Vice-Chancellor Prof Md Sharfuddin Ahmed presided over the meeting.
