As tensions rose
following the attack on Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Munibur Rahman and
ruling party men clashed with law enforcement, the government deployed 10
platoons of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) personnel in Barishal city.
Law enforcers so far
arrested at least 13 people in connection with the two cases filed over the
attack. Earlier, Md. Munibur Rahman and police filed two separate cases with
Kotwali Model police station on Thursday noon (August 19).
In the two instances,
Kotwali police Officer-in-Charge Nurul Islam claimed 30-40 people were named
and 100 people were unnamed. In these cases, 13 leaders and activists were
arrested.
The 10 battalion BGB
members will be led by 10 executive magistrates, according to Deputy
Commissioner (DC) Jasim Uddin Haider.
Around 10 p.m. on
Wednesday, the United Nations' official residence on the Sadar Upazila Complex
premises was attacked over the removal of posters and banners. During the
incident, the OC of the Kotwali Model police station was shot.
