'Child Marriage On Rise as Girls Run Away Home And Get Married'

The parliamentary committee thinks that child marriage is increasing due to young girls running away from home and getting married. In the light of such information from the parliamentary committee, the Ministry of Women and Children's Affairs is conducting a survey to find out the cause.

The information came from the working paper of the parliamentary committee on the ministry of women and children held at the parliament building on Wednesday (August 25).

It is learned that the committee had made a recommendation in this regard in its previous meeting. According to the minutes of the meeting, the chairman of the committee Meher Afroz hermself raised the issue.

He said many young girls are now running away from home and getting married. Due to which child marriage is increasing. Later the committee brought the matter in the form of recommendation.

The Ministry of Women and Children Affairs briefed the committee on the progress of the recommendations of Wednesday's meeting. It is seen that the ministry has given a letter to the director general of the women's affairs department and children's academy and the executive director of the national women's organization.

In the letter, it was mentioned that child marriage is increasing due to many young girls running away from home and getting married.

The committees set up to prevent child marriage have been directed to take timely action to find out the reasons and conduct a survey in this regard.

The meeting recommended involving local people's representatives in any event of the project 'Development of Women Entrepreneurs in Economic Empowerment at the grassroots level'. The committee also urged for speedy completion of the project.

The committee also recommended a separate project to train women in various subjects in each city corporation area of ​​the country.

Committee members Abdul Aziz, Shabnam Jahan, Syeda Rashida Begum, Sahadara Mannan and Kaniz Fatema Ahmed took part in the meeting chaired by President Meher Afroz.
