A webinar organized by Right to Food Bangladesh was discussing the complex situation of food production and import in the country. UNDP Bangladesh economist Dr Nazneen Ahmed elaborated on how mill owners can influence the rice market.

As soon as the speech of these economists was over, an activist of Right to Food Bangladesh suddenly said, the minister himself is the owner of the rice mill! Food Minister Sadhan Chandra Majumder, who was present as the chief guest, got angry on hearing this.

He got angry and repeatedly wanted to know the name of the questioner. The minister said that by saying this he had defiled the whole meeting. I do not want to run the ministry with this stigma. If necessary, I will leave the ministry.

"I think I'll quit right now," he said. At the same time, I think this show should also be skipped.

The minister later went on to explain the reason for the anger, claiming that he was a farmer. His family is also a farming family. He has to listen to questions as a rice trader in different places. For that reason, his was quite upset.

"We don't even have a rice mill in Niamatpur," he said.

Subal Sarkar, who later commented on the minister, was later found out with the help of the presenter. He apologized to the minister for his remarks.

Chairman of Food Rights Bangladesh and PKSF Kazi Khaliquzzaman presided over the function. He also apologized to the food minister for the comment of Subal Sarkar.
