In a 2017 drugs case filed over the recovery of illegal
cocaine worth around Tk22 crore, a Khulna court sentenced a man to death.
In the same case, the court sentenced another to life in
prison and four others to varied prison terms.
According to Public Prosecutor Enamul Hoque, Khulna District
and Sessions Judge Mashiur Rahman Chowdhury declared the verdict Thursday
afternoon in the presence of the accused in the courtroom.
Bikash Chandra Biswas, one of the accused, was sentenced to
death and fined Tk1 lakh.
Sohel Rana was sentenced to life in jail and fined Tk1 lakh,
while Arifur Rahman Sagir was sentenced to 15 years in prison and fined Tk1
lakh.
Ershad Hossain, Bikash Chandra Mondal, and Fazlur Rahman
Fakir, the last three, were all sentenced to ten years in prison.
On August 12, 2017, the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB)
apprehended six drug traffickers and confiscated 2.25 kilograms of cocaine
worth Tk22.50 crore from several locations in Khulna.
RAB then filed a case against the six with the Rupsha police
station under the Narcotics Control Act.
